Chargemap Pricing
Transparent rates for everyone
From one public charging point to another, the pricing model can vary significantly. A good understanding of the pricing methods of charging points is essential to avoid any surprises on your bill.
In the interests of greater transparency, Chargemap explains the main pricing principles of public charging points and tells you all about the service charges applied to each charging session carried out with the Chargemap Pass.
How is the price set for charging at a public charging point?
The company that owns the charging point, i.e. the charging network, decides on the cost and pricing structure of a charging session: billing by energy, time, session. Chargemap respects each network's pricing model and simply applies its service charges as an access provider.
Thanks to its large number of users, Chargemap can negotiate specific agreements with certain networks to offer advantageous rates to its customers.
What does the price of a charging session include?
The price of a charging session takes many factors into account, such as the price of electricity (which varies from one country to another),the cost of renting the site where the charging point is located, the cost of equipment and maintenance, user support, etc.
Check rates before charging
Before charging your electric vehicle, please always check the charging price directly in the Chargemap app.
How much does a charging session cost with the Chargemap Pass?
Chargemap's rates depend on the contracts negotiated with the various partner networks. This means that the networks decide on a charging price to which Chargemap adds a reasonable and constant service charge of around 10%
Thanks to these service charges, you benefit:
- 24/7 customer service by phone or email
- A constantly evolving app to simplify your charging sessions
- Reliable data
- New networks regularly connected
- A smooth, transparent bill
These service charges also help to fund the development of the mobile app, which is available free of charge. This is why when you charge with your Chargemap Pass, the price of the charging session may differ from the rates shown on the operator's charging point.

Our commitments
Negotiate fair and affordable tariffs
- 01.
Being transparent about our rates, by carefully displaying them in detail in our mobile app and by being educational.
- 02.
Lobby for a simplification of tariffs with charging networks. In particular, promote the kWh pricing that we believe is the fairest for consumers.
- 03.
Allowing you to compare prices via the tools available in our mobile app to stimulate competition between charging networks.
- 04.
Negotiate better rates for our users by negotiating volume-based agreements with charging networks.
Filter charging stations according to their prices

Filtering stations by billing method and maximum price seems essential. That's why we've developed two filters in the app to display only network stations that charge by the kWh and according to a price threshold set by the user.
Simulate the cost of a charging session

It is now possible to simulate the final cost of a charging session by clearly identifying the network's share as well as Chargemap's share. Discover the charging cost simulator in the Chargemap app (on the rate page of a station) and anticipate the costs of your next charging sessions!

We answer your questions
Does Chargemap own the charging stations?
Chargemap is not the owner of the charging stations made available to you.
If a charging point is damaged or malfunctions, please notify the operator first. You can also contribute to our website and/or the Chargemap app to inform other users.
Does Chargemap set the tariffs for charging stations?
Chargemap sets the applicable rates for charging sessions carried out with the Chargemap Pass, based on those determined by the charging network. To do this, we use the network's pricing model and add our service charges to our wholesale purchase price.
Can Chargemap negotiate rates with networks?
Thanks to our large number of users, we are constantly seeking to negotiate agreements with networks to offer our customers advantageous rates. Some charging networks are inclined to do this, others are not, which is why we are developing tools to enable our users to compare prices and choose the networks that are making an effort on tariffs.
How much does a Chargemap Pass cost?
The Chargemap Pass is a payment card that lets you pay for charging sessions at public charging points. With no commitment and no subscription, you only pay for the initial purchase of the card at the price of €14.90, then your consumption and nothing more!
Why aren't Chargemap Pass prices displayed on the charging points?
It's still complex for networks to implement. They often work with several operators and with chargepoint models that lack the technical features required to manage a dynamic display of tariffs. You can check the Chargemap tariff on a compatible charging point directly on the mobile app or website.
What are the fees on Chargemap?
Charging sessions carried out with Chargemap Pass include a service charge on each charging session. This fee enables us to continue to offer you responsive and available support, to improve our service and to guarantee you the best possible charging experience (notably thanks to new features). The amount of these charges is shown in the charging cost simulator, in the "See rates" section of the station descriptions. The charges applied vary according to the total amount of the charging session.
Are there any special offers from Chargemap?
Yes, of course! In partnership with certain Chargemap-compatible charging networks, reduced rates are available for a given period. Find out about current special offers in the Chargemap app by using the "Stations on special offer" filter.
What are the different network billing systems?
The most common are as follows:
- billing per kWh. It is used by a number of major national networks (Electra, Ionity, Fastned, etc.).
- billing by the hour or minute. This type of billing is more common on small local networks. The price is calculated by the minute or by time slot (10, 15, 30 minutes, etc.).
- flat-rate billing. Some networks offer a flat rate, a price over a period of time, usually at night.
Chargemap promotes kWh pricing as much as possible, given that it is considered as the fairest and most advantageous for drivers.
Why are the rates different from one public charging station to another?
Charging prices can vary enormously from one network to another. They will depend on the following factors:
- the power rating of the charging point,
- the operator,
- the period,
- etc.
Why do charging session rates vary from one country to another?
Every country has a different electricity price, depending among other things on:
- Its production capacity (for example, nuclear power in France allows us to be fairly independent of market prices).
- Its supply policy (long-term supply contracts, for example).
- But it also depends on the European market and the geopolitical situation.
- Variations linked to the exchange rate or VAT in force in the country can also have an impact on the price of charging sessions.
What is the average cost of an EV charging session?
That's the big question on everyone's lips. And yet it's hard to answer! The cost depends on many parameters, notably the charging cost of each network.
How long does it take to charge an electric car?
There are no easy answers. The time can vary from 20 to 30 minutes to several hours. A number of factors influence the time it takes to charge the battery, such as the type of charging point and its power, the power of the charging cable and, above all, the charging power compatible with your electric vehicle.
Do rates vary according to the time of day?
It is possible, but not systematic. Some public networks offer preferential tariffs at certain times of the day (particularly at night).
Do rates vary according to the charging power of the chargepoint used?
The power of the charge is an important factor in calculating the cost. Rates for fast charging are generally higher than those for slow charging. In short, the higher the power, the higher the cost.
How much does it cost to charge an electric car on the motorway?
It can be complex to give a precise rate. Each operator charges its own rates according to its own cost constraints (motorway concessions, equipment depreciation, maintenance costs, etc.). So it's important to check the rates carefully before charging.
How does the charging power of my vehicle affect the price?
Not all electric vehicle models have the same maximum charging capacity. For example, the Peugeot e-208 can reach a maximum power of 100kW, while a Tesla Model 3 can go up to 170kW. As a result, if a vehicle is connected to a charging point providing more power than it can handle, the charging speed adapts to the vehicle and is limited.
Why is public charging more expensive than home charging?
Unlike home charging, the price of public charging takes a number of factors into account. Public charging points require more specific equipment than home charging points. The installation and electrical connection require a higher investment, in addition to the services provided by the mobility operator (maintenance, call centre, accessibility tools, etc.).
For all these reasons, the costs of operating and maintaining the charging points are not the same as for home chargers.
